My new career rocks
I always thought that massage therapists had to go to college for four years before they were certified to perform massages. I just assumed that the profession must require a four year degree since message therapists get paid so well. I had heard that most of them average sixty dollars per hour long massage. When you take into account that the average massage therapist does about six or seven massages a day that comes out to be some fantastic money. Although the pay is a great incentive, having a career that can provide you with a sense of fulfillment from helping others to feel better is another motivating factor in deciding to pursue a career in massage therapy.
Then I found out from a friend that message therapists only require a certificate and that most message therapy classes can be completed in about a year. I couldn’t believe that after a year of massage therapy classes you can have a career as a massage therapist and be earning that much money. It seemed too good to be true. I wondered why I hadn’t looked into this sooner.
I went on-line and checked out some of the accredited massage therapy programs offered in my area and I was surprised to learn that most programs can be completed in less than two years with some more aggressive programs ending in one year. It really was possible to train for an entirely new career in a year.
I looked at the different massage therapy classes that were required for the program and was excited about the prospect learning both in the classroom and getting in clinical experience hours. How many careers allow you to get hands on experience in perfecting your skills and techniques before releasing you out into the real world? Definitely not enough! This sounded fantastic like a fantastic opportunity. I found an accredited school that was located less than twenty minutes from my house. They offered massage therapy classes year round too, so I didn’t have to wait for a new semester to begin school, I was able to start in three weeks.
I applied for financial aid and received a generous grant to help me with my tuition. It seemed as if the stars had aligned and I was walking down the path towards my calling in life. After I started taking my massage therapy classes I only had one more question left…Why hadn’t I thought of this sooner?
